Our Lady of Covadonga Statue
University of South Florida Libraries
Using structured light scanning technology, the University of South Florida Library’s Digital Heritage and Humanities Collections have created a 3D model of this fragile statue. The piece, which is a historic replica, was previously used in festival events and on display at the El Centro Asturiano - one of Tampa’s early Spanish social clubs (c 1902). This piece became too fragile and needed curation, and is on loan to the USF Libraries. Our team 3D laser scanned this piece, as well as performed comparative photogrammetry modeling. The digitized models are used for virtual sharing, preservation, and conservation efforts, and as a means of developing a replica of the piece. Explore our model and various texture methods for creating our digital replica.
