Abstract

this chapter will focus on the physical-appearance aspect of body image / this chapter consists of three principal sections / first, we will briefly review and discuss the techniques used for the measurement of perceptual and subjective aspects of the physical appearance component of body image / the measures that are reviewed have been used with a variety of clinical and nonclinical populations / this section will also provide a table that contains a brief description, psychometric information, and an address of the individual to contact for further information about the particular instrument
second, we will examine research that has attempted to measure convergence between the various procedures / less applied in nature, this section will evaluate the relative independence versus overlap of various measures / third, specific recommendations for the utilization of instruments in certain settings and with idiosyncratic populations will be offered
