Abstract

Larger foraminifers are locally significant contributors to tropical carbonate sediments, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region. The two major factors influencing foraminiferal productioin are biogeographic distributions of key taxa and suitability of habitats. The larger foraminiferal taxa primarily responsible for significant carbonate sand production are members of the families calcarinidae and Amphisteginidae, although members of the Soritidae and Peneroplidae may also be locally common.
