Sexism by social class and ethnic group and its relation to psychopathology
Individual autonomy and institutional control have been at the heart of mental health law for over thirty years. The authors explore four legal issues relevant to the provision of care in secure hospitals: 1) the current status of right to treatment litigation, 2) the potential impact of the Americans with Disabilities Act, 3) new developments in laws governing restraint and seclusion, and 4) the need for uniform institutional policies on risk assessment. With diminishing oversight provided by the federal judiciary, institutional custodians must ensure that individual rights are not overridden.
