Author Biography

Howard Campbell is a Professor of Cultural Anthropology and Chairman of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). He is the author or editor of six academic volumes including “Drug War Zone: Frontline Dispatches from the Streets of El Paso and Juárez.” Additionally, he is the author of a bilingual children’s book titled “A Dog Named Pavlov/Un Perro Llamado Pavlov.” His forthcoming book (fall 2021) is called “Downtown Juárez: Underworlds of Violence and Abuse.

Dr. Campbell received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in 1990. He is a specialist in Latin American Studies with a primary focus on Mexico. Campbell’s teaching and research are concerned primarily with ethnicity, political anthropology, social and intellectual movements, ethnographic research methods, Mexico and drug trafficking. During the period of 2018-2021, Dr. Campbell was the Endowed Professor of Western Hemispheric Trade Policy Studies at UTEP.
