Abstract

Dr. Carolyn Ellis (USF) will present "Compassionate, Collaborative Research and Documentary Storytelling." Carolyn Ellis will show a short documentary, "Groaning from the Soul," that she and Steven Schoen created together. The documentary describes and shows images from her visit, with Holocaust survivor Jerry Rawicki, to Treblinka, a death camp in Poland where Jerry's family members were killed. She will engage in an open discussion with audience members about her work with Jerry and the ethics, perils, and rewards of doing compassionate qualitative research about the trauma in their lives.
