This preliminary bibliography was done under the direction of Dr. Harry E. Vanden (University of South Florida). While by no means complete, we have attempted to begin to bring together a list of books, articles, government and NGO reports, newspaper articles, web sites, etc. related to gangs in Central America including their relationship to gangs in the United States. We have searched library databases such as Academic Search Premier, ProQuest Dissertations Full Text, Worldwide Political Science Abstracts, Criminal Justice Abstracts, Military & Government Collection, Homeland Security Digital Library, Google Scholar, Sociological Abstracts, etc. We have pursued the time-honored method of looking at the bibliographies at the end of articles and books as well as asking researchers for suggestions. We have been updating this bibliography as time permits. The most recent version of the bibliography is uploaded to box.net at http://www.box.net/shared/m267o3f1is Early citations are formatted according to the American Psychological Association‘s Publication Manual (5th edition, 2001) taking the APA Style Guide to Electronic References from 2007 into account. Citations added more recently are based on the 6th edition of the Publication Manual (2009). Some liberties have been taken. Whenever possible, we have left in active links to PDF and HTML files for the works listed even though web sites are notoriously prone to change, move, or be taken down altogether. We hope that anyone accessing this document from an internet-connected computer will find the active links useful.
