Author Biography

Lee Kahan is an Associate Professor of English at Indiana University South Bend. He specializes in the eighteenth-century British novel and has published articles on Daniel Defoe and Tobias Smollett. He is currently working on a book that examines how novelists from Defoe to Edgeworth responded to reader anxieties about the growing power of mass media over daily life and how their attempts to distance the novel from news of various kinds led to changes in novelistic form.
