This training will help program participants to develop the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities to organize a Community Disaster Preparedness Coalition or strengthen an existing Coalition that integrates public health, human services, and emergency management systems into their respective county's disaster preparedness, response, and recovery structure. Program participants will be provided with knowledge of current best practices, collaborative approaches, practical tools, and technical assistance that will enable them to organize or strengthen a Coalition in their counties.

Individuals who participate will gain the knowledge, skills, and attitude to:

  • Discuss the importance of establishing pre-disaster collaborative partnerships.
  • Identify critical partners in the government, not-for-profit, faith-based, and business sectors.
  • Identify various approaches in structuring an effective Coalition. Develop and implement strategies for identifying, engaging, and sustaining community partners in their county’s Coalition.
  • Create a Coalition which fits their county’s needs and builds relationships among health, human services, and emergency management systems.
  • Apply the incident command system (ICS) in conjunction with their county’s Coalition.
  • Identify and seek funding and/or other resources to support the Coalition and county disaster response and recovery efforts.
